Synaptini

Belongs within: Elaterinae.

The Synaptini are a group of click beetles distinguished by their strongly serrate claws. The majority of synaptins are placed in the genus Glyphonyx (Stibick 1979).

Characters (from Stibick 1979, as Adrastini): Head capsule oval, deflexed, mouthparts inferior, frontal carina complete or incomplete, but characteristically as an elevated rim over antennal bases which may or may not meet in middle in front of labrum to which it may or may not be connected by a ridge, antennae 11-segmented, serrate; prosternum normally arcuate anteriorly, prosternal sutures double, excavated in front; scutellum shield-shaped, never cordate; mesocoxae open to both mesepimeron and mesepisternum; meso- and metasternum distinct, joined by definite suture; tarsi simple or 3rd or 4th segment lobed; claws strongly serrate, without basal setae.
