Amphisphaeriaceae

Amphisphaeria umbrina, copyright Christopher Reisborg.

Belongs within: Amphisphaeriales.

The Amphisphaeriaceae are an assemblage of fungi that are typically saprobic or nectrophic in leaves or stems (Kirk et al. 2001).

Characters (Kirk et al. 2001): Stromata crustose, often clypeate, rarely absent; ascomata perithecial, immersed or erumpent, more or less globose, ostiole papillate, periphysate. Interascal tissue of numerous thin-walled usually gelatinised true paraphyses. Asci cylindrical, persistent, with small, usually J+ apical ring. Ascospores hyaline to brown, ellipsoidal to fusiform, sometimes elongate, transversely septate, rarely ornamented, often with germ pores. Anamorphs coelomycetous, usually acervular, often with versicolored appendaged conidia.
