Ceratium tripos is a large marine dinoflagellate with a triangular epitheca abruptly forming a straight apical horn. The hypothecal horns, if well developed, are closed and often almost parallel with the apical horn, and the theca surface is rugose and bears linear markings (Tomas 1997).
