Dalbergieae

Zornia diphylla var. glochidiata, copyright JIRCAS.

Belongs within: Papilionoideae.
Contains: Aeschynomene.

The Dalbergieae are a mostly pantropical group of legumes united by a distinctive root nodule morphology (Cardoso et al. 2013). Members include Pterocarpus, padauks, a pantropical genus of trees with indehiscent, orbicular fruits that are compressed to form a broad hardened wing around usually a single central seed. The peanut Arachis hypogaea is widely grown for its edible seeds which are produced in pods maturing underground. Tahitian chestnut Inocarpus fagifer is an Indo-Pacific tree species that is utilised for its edible seed kernels and as a source of wood. Tipa Tipuana tipu is a native of South America that is widely grown as a shade tree though it is now regarded as an invasive in several regions. Zornia is a genus of prostrate to erect subshrubs with palmately 2- or 4-foliolate leaves.
