Belongs within: Polyopisthocotylea.
The Diclidophoridae are monogenean flukes in which the opisthaptor comprises four pairs of pedunculate clamp-like suckers (Dawes 1956).
Characters (Dawes 1956): Opisthaptor comprising four pairs of pedunculate clamp-like suckers having a rather complicated cuticular framework generally consisting of eight sclerites and numerous minute additional pieces which form rod-like chains; main sclerites with four pieces bordering opening of sucker ventrally; two others bent at right angles, one part of each bordering opening dorsally, the other being directed towards its centre; and two others reinforcing dorsal wall, one T-shaped, the other continuing the stem of the t above its limbs; dorsal wall of sucker reinforced by rodlets which are arranged fan-wise in six to seven concentric arcs. Genital hooklets invariably present, each being curved and deeply grooved, but not necessarily with bifurcate points. Testes numerous. Ovary elongate, folded, generally in front of testes. Receptaculum seminis generally present. Vaginae generally absent.
