Belongs within: Sciaroidea.
The Ditomyiidae are a group of fungus gnats characterised by wings with the media and cubitus connected, and vein R4 relatively long (Tonnoir & Edwards 1927). An incomplete eye bridge may be present above the antennae in some genera; the eyes are almost touching in Symmerus (Vockeroth 1981).
Characters (from Tonnoir & Edwards 1927, as Ditomyiinae): R4 present and rather long, generally half or more than half as long as Rs; Sc short and ending free; posterior divisions of pronotum with one or more longish bristles.
