Halacarus

Belongs within: Halacaridae.

Halacarus is a genus of halacarid mites in which genu I is subequal in length to the adjoining femur and tibia (Luxton 1990). The North Atlantic H. anomalus is an arenicolous species with a flexible, cylindrical body (Newell 1947).

Characters (Luxton 1990): Ocular and posterior dorsal plates may be reduced or absent; anterior epimeral plates not divided into two parts; five large dorsal pores often present; palps four-segmented, penultimate segment with a spiniform seta; genu I subequal in length to femur I and tibia I, genu I with one pair of spiniform setae and tibia I with two pairs.
