The Hapalidiaceae are coralline red algae with tetrasporangia/bisporangia borne in conceptacles, producing apical plugs, developing beneath multiporate plates but not borne individually within calcified sporangial compartments, and producing zonately arranged spores (Harvey et al. 2003).
