Belongs within: Petrosaviidae.
Contains: Dianella.
The Hemerocallidaceae are a group of monocotyledons united by molecular data. Representatives commonly have semi-equitant leaves, with the upper and lower portions bifacial and the intermediated section unifacial, and exclusively trichotomosulcate pollen (Chase et al. 2000). Phormium, New Zealand flax, is a genus of large species endemic to New Zealand and surrounding islands, whose leaves have historically been used as a source of fibre.
