Jasminoideae

The Jasminoideae are a group of oleaceous plants with ascending ovules, generally with a differing number than two ovules per locule. The type genus Jasminum, jasmines, comprises vines and shrubs found in warmer regions of the Old World, often bearing white or yellow, fragrant flowers. Nyctanthes arbor-tristis, night-flowering jasmine, is a southeast Asian shrub sometimes known as ‘tree of sadness’ in reference to its habit of dropping flowers in the early morning. Notelaea, mock-olives, is an Australian genus of shrubs and small trees bearing drupaceous fruits.
