Lacuninae

Northern lacuna Lacuna vincta, copyright Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History.

Belongs within: Littorinoidea.

The Lacuninae are a group of periwinkles found in the eulittoral and sublittoral zones, characterised by a paucispiral operculum usually bearing an internal ridge, and females lacking a seminal receptacle or having the receptacle at the end of a long duct. Members of the Northern Hemisphere genus Lacuna have a turbinated or globular shell with a semilunar aperture and flattened columella (Oldroyd 1927).
