Oligonychus is a genus of spider mites characteristically feeding on grasses or on the upper surface of plant leaves. They are characterised by the presence of a clawlike empodium, about as long as or longer than its proximoventral hairs, a single pair of para-anal setae, and the absence of setigerous tubercles on the dorsum of the body (Baker & Pritchard 1960). Several species are economically significant pests including the tea red spider mite O. coffeae and Banks’ grass mite O. pratensis.
