Orchesella

Belongs within: Entomobryidae.

Orchesella is a genus of entomobryid springtails with clavate tenent hairs, the fourth abdominal segment less than three times as long as the third, and a basal spine on the bidentate mucro (Christiansen & Bellinger 1980).

Characters (Christiansen & Bellinger 1980): Clavate tenent hairs present; antennae with basal subsegments on second, and sometimes first segment, fourth and sometimes third segment showing distinct signs of annulation or setal whorling; fourth abdominal segment less than three times as long as third; mucro bidentate with a basal spine; unguis with four small inner teeth; unguiculus acuminate, usually with small external tooth.
