The Ploceidae, weavers, are a group of granivorous birds found in Africa and southern Asia. Many species nest communally, with nests placed close together or sometimes conjoined into large unified structures that may house hundreds of birds. Representatives include the fodies of the genus Foudia, found on Madagascar and other islands of the Indian Ocean, in which males are marked by bright red or yellow plumage.
