The Samoidae are a tropical family of laniatorean harvestmen with eyes on a defined ocularium, and scopulae on tarsi III and IV.
Characters (Pérez González & Kury 2007): Small to medium-sized harvestmen; body length 1.9–5.5 mm. Body as an asymmetrical hourglass, anterior half much shorter, posterior half rounded, laterally convex appearance. Mesotergum with four areas poorly defined, usually unarmed; free tergites unarmed. Chelicerae with basichelicerite very long, smooth, unarmed, enlarged without conspicuous bulla; hand massive. Pedipalps not enlarged. Legs III–IV without tarsal process; scopula commonly present (may be indistinct); claws smooth. Penis with truncus cylindrical, without well-defined ventral plate, ending in one calyx; pars distalis not differentiated from pars basalis by any groove or constriction; pars distalis ventrally and laterally armed with strong spatulate spines; capsula interna eversible, formed by pair of conductors completely fused with stylus.
