Belongs within: Mycetophilidae.
The Sciophilini is a group of sciophiline fungus gnats distinguished by the presence of macrotrichia on the wings (Tonnoir & Edwards 1927). However, monophyly of the group has been questioned on the basis of similarities of some genera to species lacking macrotrichia (Vockeroth 1981).
Characters (from Tonnoir & Edwards 1927): Wing with macrotrichia on the membrane; microtrichia sometimes absent. Postnotum usually with hairs or bristles; Sc nearly always long; last section of R1 several times as long as r-m, which is oblique; 7th abdominal segment usually large and visible.
