The Sporormiales are a group of microfungi with black ascomata and no stroma (Kirk et al. 2001).
Characters (Kirk et al. 2001): Stromata absent. Ascomata perithecial, black, thick-walled, sometimes hairy, with well-developed lysigenous ostiole that is sometimes periphysate. Interascal tissue copious, of cellular pseudoparaphyses. Asci cylindrical, fissitunicate, sometimes with complex apical structures. Ascospores usually dark brown, strongly constricted and fragmenting at septa, usually with germ slits in each cell, occasionally ornamented, sometimes with a sheath.
