Sycophila is a cosmopolitan genus of wasps with species found in both softer parts of plant galls and figs (Bouček 1988).
Characters (from Bouček 1988): Body slender; gena posteriorly without conspicuous straight carina; notauli rather shallow; marginal vein longer than stigmal, moderately to very strongly widened, stigmal and postmarginal veins short and not widened; propodeum with wavy cross-carina which medially adheres to anterior margin; petiole narrow, often dorsally concealed by convex base of gaster (in female); second tergite always much shorter than the large third (male) or fourth (female) tergite, gaster often compressed from side-to-side.
