Toxophorinae

Geron, possibly G. calvus, copyright Chris Hartley.

Belongs within: Bombyliidae.

The Toxophorinae are a group of slender bee flies with a more or less humped thorax. In the genus Toxophora, the pronotum is well developed and strongly bristled, and the proboscis is at most as long as the head. Members of the genera Systropus and Geron have a small pronotum, lacking bristles, and an elongate proboscis, longer than the head (Greathead et al. 2009).
