Trichalus is a genus of lycid beetles with distinct areolet(s) on the prothorax, which covers the head, and a trifurcate subsutural costa on the elytra. The species T. insignis from New South Wales is distinguished by a double discal areolet on the pronotum in contrast to the single areolet of other species (Lea 1909).
