Stichotrichida

Uroleptus pisces, copyright Picturepest.

Belongs within: Spirotricha.
Contains: HolostichaOxytricha.

The Stichotrichida are a group of ciliates in which cirri are often arranged in longitudinal files (Adl et al. 2019). In Spirofilidae, the files are curved or spiralled around the body (Lynn & Small 2002).

Characters (Adl et al. 2019): Ventral cirri as one or more longitudinal and linear files or as frontoventral cirri, typically conspicuous, arranged in specific, localized frontal and ventral groups; dorsal ciliature typically regularly distributed in longitudinal files; stomatogenesis parakinetal or apokinetal, if apokinetal, may occur with five or six anlagen streaks in two groups for differentiation of ventral somatic ciliature.
