Trypetheliaceae

Trypethelium eluteriae, copyright camyamma.

Belongs within: Pleosporomycetidae.

The Trypetheliaceae are a lineage of crustose lichens bearing globose ascomata (Kirk et al. 2001).

Characters (Kirk et al. 2001): Thallus crustose, often poorly developed or immersed. Ascomata globose, sometimes aggregated within pseudostromatic tissues, papillate, the ostiole sometimes lateral. Interascal tissue of narrow branched and anastomosed trabeculate pseudoparaphyses. Asci cylindrical, fissitunicate, with wide ocular chamber, without refractive ring, not blueing in iodine. Ascospores usually hyaline, transversely septate or muriform, septa often thickened, with a mucous sheath. Anamorphs coelomycetous where known. Lichenised with green algae.
