Cantharidus

Belongs within: Trochidae.

Cantharidus is a western Pacific genus of trochids with a smooth, sharp-spired shell known from the Miocene to the present. A weak columellar fold is typically present but is absent in the Lower Miocene C. tersa of New Zealand (Knight et al. 1960).

Characters (Knight et al. 1960): Spire tapering, surface nearly smooth; columellar fold and tooth weak or absent.
