Belongs within: Ascomycota. The Geoglossaceae, earth tongues, are a group of fungi saprobic on soil or rotting vegetation (Kirk et al. 2001). Characters (Kirk et al. 2001): Stromata absent. Ascomata clavate, spathulate or strongly stipitate, hymenium usually not clearly separable from stalk, usually dark.
