Mastogloia is a genus of diatoms bearing punctate striae (Crosby & Ferguson Woods 1959).

Characters (Crosby & Ferguson Woods 1959): Valves similar, orbicular, linear, elliptical, lanceolate or rhombic, with obtuse, acute or rostrate ends; axial area narrow or indistinct; central area usually small; median line straight or undulate; striae punctate, punctae usually in longitudinal or decussate lines; septate plate divided into loculi found between connective zone and valve, next to margin; plastids two, each consisting of band with centre at apex, extending on both valves toward centre, with sinus on middle of band at its upper part; pyrenoid between folds of each band.
