Muricopsis

Muricopsis matildae, from the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle.

Belongs within: Muricidae.

Muricopsis is a genus of murexes with a scaly surface on the shell (Wilson 1994).

Characters (Wilson 1994): Small, fusiform, high-spired, whorls more or less shouldered; protoconch small, about 1.5 convex whorls tipped asymmetrically; aperture ovate to lenticular, outer lip denticulate along its inner side; columella denticulate or pustulose anteriorly; five to eight simple varices per whorl, bearing short to long scaly spines; surface finely spirally corded and scaly; operculum ovate, nucleus terminal, lateral areas thickened.
