Trichoglossus

Belongs within: Loriinae.

The genus Trichoglossus includes the rainbow lorikeet T. haematodus and related species found in tropical Australasia and the islands of south-east Asia. Members of this genus often have a barred upper breast and/or relatively long tails. Subspecies of the rainbow lorikeet are predominantly green, often with a blue crown, yellow band around the back of the head, and barred red breast. The Pohnpei lorikeet T. fuliginosus is predominantly maroon with yellow flight feathers and tail.
