The Ataphridae are a Mesozoic assemblage of smooth, turbiniform shells (Monari et al. 1996).
Characters (Monari et al. 1996): Peristome usually continuous, nearly on one plane. Outer lip simple, sometimes slightly thickened. Inner lip smooth or with rounded elevation and/or shallow excavation. Wide variety of inner lip callosity present. Last whorl sometimes feebly deviating abaxially. Weak spiral lines and/or opisthocline lines seldom appearing.
