Bryaxina

Bryaxina armiceps, from Raffray (1904).

Bryaxina is a Brazilian genus of pselaphine beetles with a more or less irregular head and enlarged tarsi in the males (Raffray 1904).

Characters (Raffray 1904): Thick, more or less subflattened. Large head more or less irregular. Palps medium, with two elongated, clavate joints, 3 minute, globose, 4 briefly and irregularly ovate, subinflated towards middle and, before apex, slightly sinuous, very acute apex. Antennae strong and thick, gradually thickened at apex, club not abrupt. Prothorax trifoveated with smaller median fossa. Elytra large, square, with three or four-foveated base, very short dorsal stripe. Abdomen short, segments first dorsal slightly larger, with two carinules never exceeding a third of disc and always including more than a third. Ventral segment first appearing always longitudinally carinated at base. Intermediate coxae not very far apart and between them a lamellated mesosternum, posterior coxae less distant. Last ventral segment of male more or less transversely impressed, its apical margin straight truncate and carinate-elevated, pygidium large, trapezoidal. Hind tibiae of male blunt, apical setifiorm calcar of female is more or less elongated and sometimes sinuous, armed. Tarsi strong, always ciliated below, in male joint 2 of anterior tarsi is larger, following one is more than twice as long, slightly subovate, convex above, flattened below and densely scaly.
