Belongs within: Procellariiformes.
Oceanodroma is a genus of storm petrels found primarily in the Northern Hemisphere, suggested by phylogenetic analysis (e.g. Burleigh et al. 2015) to be paraphyletic with regard to the storm petrel Hydrobates pelagicus. As a group, both genera are united by relatively short legs and long and pointed wings with about fourteen secondaries (Cramp & Simmons 1977). Hydrobates pelagicus is smaller than other storm petrels and possesses a broad white bar along the underside of the wing (Cramp & Simmons 1977).
