Parrhinotermes

Parrhinotermes is an Indo-Australian genus of termites in which the monomorphic soldiers have a daubing brush at the end of their labrum (Maiti 2006).

Characters (Maiti 2006): Alate: Head and pronotum yellowish brown and sparsely hairy, abdomen paler and more hairy. Head subcircular and considerably flat. Fontanelle placed forwardly with distinct groove, running anteriorly up to postclypeus. Eyes large, bulging out. Ocelli absent or, if present, thin oval and placed close to eyes. Antennae with 16–17 segments, 2–4 variable. Postclypeus weakly convex with median line. Labrum short, round apically. Left mandible with finger-like apical tooth, first marginal rudimentary, second short and subequal to third. Right mandible with apical as in left, first marginal rudimentary, placed at base of second marginal which is subequal to apical, third short with long posterior margin being subequal to molar plate. Pronotum flat, narrower than head. Apical tibial spurs 3:2:2 or 2:2:2. Cerci two-jointed. Styli absent. Soldier: Head ovoid, flat and narrowed in front. Fontanelle placed almost near clypeus, opening round to oval, groove running to apex of labrum. Postclypeus flat. Eyes and ocelli absent. Antennae with 13 segments, 2–4 variable. Labrum tongue-shaped, longer than broad, anterior margin hyaline with fringe of hairs like a brush. Mandibles long, narrow, fairly broad at base. Left with thin and finely pointed incurved apex; first marginal forwardly directed with fine apex, second somewhat blunt, its posterior margin smooth and terminating in a notch, below which it is serrated all through. Right mandible with finely pointed, very small apical tooth, appressed to first marginal tooth which has long posterior margin, serrated below. Postment club-shaped, widest at anterior third, waist almost on posterior third. Pronotum narrower than head, both anterior and posterior margins shallowly concave.
